Painting is the silence of thought and the music of sight."- Orhan Pamuk*
The painted stork is a large wading bird in the stork family seen frequently across freshwater marshes, lakes, reservoirs, irrigation canals, rice paddies etc. throughout the Indian subcontinent.
Although one of the most abundant of the Asian storks, this species is classified as Near Threatened because of habitat loss and pollution.
The adults have a long yellow orange bill, pink legs, white plumage with black markings and a splash of rose pink near the tail feathers. This colourful display lends it its name "Painted stork".
